LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Tuesday said he would rather be killed before ordering authorities to open fire on people protesting against load shedding and demanding their basic right.
Speaking in the Punjab Assembly, Shahbaz said people were highly enraged about excessive load shedding in Punjab, which was being treated in a step motherly fashion. He said the provincial government would take steps to generate electricity, adding that 500 million tons of coal reserves had been found in Punjab that would help steer the country away from the energy crisis.
The chief minister said an Australian company was assigned to carry out a survey in Jehlum. “Now, by the grace of Allah, the company has presented its report that confirms coal reserves in the region.”
He questioned why the previous government did not carry out a survey in Punjab. Shahbaz said had it been done in the past, the precious resource could have been exploited for generation of energy.
